Nintendo has blamed the GameCube for a loss in first-half profits, which forced the gaming vet to lower its full-year sales target. Slumping North American sales of the GameCube and its software continue to foreshadow the console’s imminent demise, which may be closer than previously projected. Nintendo’s senior managing director Yoshihiro Mori spoke frankly at a news conference in Osaka, stating, “The big drop for GameCube games was in North America. It looks like the product’s life is nearing its end.” Nintendo had expected to sell 2.8 million GameCube units this fiscal year, but is now prepared to lower that estimate.
