Though it's not altogether new for the franchise as a whole, it is still notable to know -- the next upcoming Zelda adventure, The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks, will include multiplayer support for up to four players.
The Zelda series has traditionally been a single-player affair, with the lone hero Link questing across Hyrule to save the princess all by himself. But a few spin-off designs over the years have brought multiple players into the action, including The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords Adventures and Phantom Hourglass, the previous release on DS.
So the fact that up to four people can play Spirit Tracks together isn't unprecedented, but may still be novel -- with the game's focus on train travel and laying down your own sets of rails, it could be pretty interesting to battle against other rival conductor trying to out-track you and blast you into oblivion with their coal-powered cannons.
The confirmation came from Shigeru Miyamoto himself, during tonight's roundtable discussion behind closed doors. No specific details of Spirit Tracks' multiplayer were announced, though, so anything written above or in the community-fueled Comments section below is pure speculation right now.
Here that, community? Get to speculating!
