The D2Prog is the USB programmer used to update the firmware of the D2Pro range of chips. This is the device you need to make sure you are always up to date with the latest firmware that have been released by the team. A good example is the 9-wire firmware update that can be used to make the installation from 19-wires down to just 9-wires. The first versions of the D2.Pro chips did not come with the SPI flash chip on the PCB which is needed for this latest 9-wire firmware from the team, so in conjunction with the D2Prog you will also need to solder a SPI flash chip onto the PCB before installation and then use the D2Prog to flash the chip with the latest 9-wire firmware
Q: What is d2prog?
A: d2prog is a tool for updating Actel A3P-family chips such as D2Pro and D2CKey.
Q: How does it work?
A: A flat cable connects the chip to the programmer (if supported), and a mini-USB connects the programmer to your computer. If the chip does not have a flat cable connection, soldered connections can be made to the jtag connectors on the chip. Software is then run on your computer to update the chip.
Q: Are the cables included?
A: Only the mini-USB cable is included. Most updateable mod-chips include a flat cable.
Q: What operating systems does the software work on?
A: The software works on most popular operating systems including a vareity of Linux distributions and MacOS X (10.4 and higher). It also works reasonably well on Windows XP with a third-party USB driver.
