Japanese 3DS sales rocketed last week on the back of the release of platform exclusive Monster Hunter 3G, which reportedly shifted over half a million copies in just two days.
While Enterbrain pegged weekly 3DS sales at 378,114 - the highest weekly total since the system’s February launch – Media Create reported sales of 350,321 units, up from 205,962 the previous week and more than double all other console hardware sales combined.
The retail monitor also reported Monster Hunter 3G sales of 521,959 copies, slightly higher than Enterbrain's total, which itself represented a new weekly record for 3DS software.
Former number ones Mario Kart 7 and Super Mario 3D Land took the next two spots on the software chart for the week ended December 11, Andriasang reports.
The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, recipient of a perfect score in Weekly Famitsu, was the week’s highest new entry. The PS3 version placed fourth with 75,865 sales, while the Xbox 360 edition came ninth with 37,037.
